Mt. Airy Back Yard Garden Oasis

After moving into her new Row Home in the beautiful neighborhood of West Mt. Airy Philadelphia, the homeowner reached out to Flower Powered to help her transform her small back yard into an urban garden oasis. In essence, she wanted a seamless flow from the modern living room and kitchen interior, to the back yard exterior. However, there was much work to be done in the long neglected city back yard, including years of buried trash, dead trees, an unsightly chain link fence and a large tree stump, just to name a few.

Flower Powered got to work and devised a landscape design plan to work in stages. Our landscape designer also presented drawings that visualized the new outdoor living space, including the installation of a paver patio and woodland garden setting. The first phase was to clear the back yard of all debris and plant materials, including weeds and tree-killing vines. Once the new fence was installed and the stump was ground, we began the installation phase of the garden. We positioned the new patio garden off of the current rear cement stoop and built a step down to the new patio. Native plants and shrubs were selected to soften the hardscaping and add beauty and interested to the mostly shaded woodland garden area.

Perennials and shrubs chosen included Hostas, Heuchera, Ferns and Creeping Junipers to name a few. As a focal point, a lovely and fragrant honeysuckle vine was installed on a trellis. A variety of sedum were also planted in rock croppings between the cement pad and the new patio.

To say the least, the client was thrilled with the landscaping finale and now enjoys a garden oasis that adds beauty, functionality and value to her new home.
